The range of scrap metals collected at the Centre includes both ferrous and non-ferrous metals disposed of by Toowoomba residents and businesses. Council provides an area (the Scrap Metal Area) where customers can dispose of their scrap metal and also engages a recycling contractor who collects scrap metal from domestic customers entering the Centre. Some sorting of scrap metal will be carried out by the recycling contractor while scrap metal collected at the designated Scrap Metal Area will mainly consist of light and heavy gauge ferrous metal. The Contractor, at its cost, may further sort the scrap metals collected under this contract.
While no guaranteed minimum level of disposal is given, it is estimated that between 700 and 800 tonnes of ferrous metals, 10 tonnes of non-ferrous metals and 30 tonnes of batteries are collected annually.
