Description

Isaac Regional Council owns the Theresa Creek Campground located on the northern shores of Theresa Creek Dam. The campground is managed for Council by an on-site manager. The campground experiences high occupancy within the months April to September annually, with lower occupancy during other times.

The campground has two (2) ablution blocks that feature combined toilet and shower facilities available for patrons. These ablution blocks are connected to septic systems which discharge to seepage/evaporative areas to the east of the campground area. The managers house and café is also connected to this septic system. There are also two (2) dry composting type toilets available for patrons at the main campground, and another demountable toilet block and separate septic system further to the west at the “Marina Campground”.

Council has recognised the need to improve the wastewater management of the campground to reduce the risk associated with spills, seepage or runoff of contaminants to the adjacent Theresa Creek Dam. The Theresa Creek Dam is the single water source for the Town of Clermont.

It is proposed that the two ablutions blocks, managers house and café, and the two dry composting toilets be connected to a new sewage treatment plant and associated effluent irrigation area located to the east of the main campground. The sewage will be captured and pumped from the various facilities to the new STP via a low pressure sewer system.

The recently installed demountable toilets and septic system at the “Marina Campground” will not be connected to the new STP at this time. Future projects may include an upgrade of this facility and connection to the STP
